This is the 3rd GTUG in South Africa, loosely based in Pretoria, hosting most of its events at the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The unique approach to this particular GTUG will be in the way that it will collaborate with local universities especially in terms of technical workshops that introduce students to Google Technologies/APIs which they can use in their school projects.

Pretoria GTUG lined up a number of activities which include technical workshops, and regular meet-ups. The membership is open and is currently comprised of professional developers, lecturers, academic and passionate techies from around Pretoria and beyond.

2011 Nov 22	The Launch and 1st Meet-up of The Pretoria GTUG (22 Oct 2011) Launch/ 1st Meet-up more... The Pretoria GTUG led by Ogunleye Olalekan Samuel and Ishmael Makitla of CSIR Meraka Institute was launched at the CSIR Knowledge Commons on 22 November 2011. Attended by some 15 participants fromCSIR, the SAP Meraka Unit for Technology Development (UTD) and the mLab, and virtual participants. The event included a presentation by Ishmael Makitla on the use of Google Talk (GTalk) service to provide chat-based access to weather information and ‘Android User Interface Design Patterns’, by Klaas Kabini of Bamboo Computing Solutions, which is part of the mLab.The next event will be the Android Workshop, planned for 17-18 February 2012, venue to be confirmed, likely to be the Meraka Auditorium at CSIR-Meraka Institute (building 43) or the CSIR Knowledge Commons (wherre the launched meet-up was held).
