HACK - Code for a Cause is a competitive hacking event with the goal of bringing together developers, designers, startups and NGOs to apply their talents to the social sector and build product ideas for social innovation. Education and health are the priority areas in the matter of social upliftment. HACK provides an opportunity to the developers to apply their skills and extend a helping hand to the social sector. It is a great chance for the developers to build great apps that do good. HACK aims at promoting the usage of open source APIs including the Google APIs (developers.google.com) to create applications for a better world. Can your app help to achieve the threshold literacy level? We had an extra-ordinary experience at BVCOE, New Delhi with DART. The quality of developers who turned out for the event and the excitement of learning a new language together made the event a huge success.

 

The event was started by a series of fun activities where we got to know the attendees personally before they began to code. The attendees were given the DART SDK along with the cue cards having snippets of codes. The attendees were also provided with some basic examples & Dart Kit developed by the BVP GDG team members, which provided them the right “kick”. They then tried to explore DART on their own and made some basic applications. During & after lunch, the developers talked about their final application & finally started to code.

“Dart is easy to use & well structured language”, “Java-script is great but DART can surely replace it, though now right now”, “The Dart editor is slow, seems like a heavy language for the web” were some of the comments we heard from the attendees.

The attendees had fun time in developing their applications and then presenting the demos the next morning. The 1st position winners were given Android Tablets, followed by an Android phone and rest were given DART goodies.

 

 

After successful bootcamp events in Mumbai and Bangalore, GTUG New Delhi and Noida and Start-up weekend will be hosting the next event in Noida. Slated for 12th April 2012 this event would give an excellent opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to understand how they can build successful businesses by leveraging some of the Google technologies.

It is a developers' conference for Google Technology enthusiasts of all experience levels, from new users to experts.Its an opportunity to learn more about google technologies and developer products as well as meet developer advocates and engineers.
