We are a group of technogeeks located in Lilongwe who are interested in all tools that make software development fun and effective. Our strongest interest are web applications that utilise Google Technologies. We also intend to focus on mobile applications and related technologies which, we believe, have great potential but not yet fully exploited in Malawi.

2011 Jun 11	Android Developer Challenge Launch Android more... Google Technology User Group (GTUG) – Lilongwe will officially launch the Android Developer Challenge on Saturday 11th June at Kamuzu College of Nursing from 8am to 3pm. There will be a briefing session on the details of the challenge and there after a hands on android training workshop for all those who would like to learn mobile application development. Food and drinks will be provided. We will also throw in some Android swag!
2011 Mar 18	GTUG-Lilongwe Film Night Inspiration videos more... Google Technology User Group Lilongwe held their second event of the year, an Inspirational Movie Night. The evening started with a documentary on the History of Search which covered the birth of Yahoo! and Excite and how Google came in later as the game changer. The role venture capitalists and angel investors played in all these startups was also looked into at depth. The second documentary was about Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, with an in depth look into his company and it’s controversial origins. There was also a screening of a more technical nature, Android UI Design Patterns, that looked into the development tools of software for mobile devices. At the very end there was a short five minute TED talk by William Kamkwamba, the Malawian who developed a wind mill from rudimentary bicycle parts in Kasungu.
2011 Feb 26	GTUG Lilongwe First Meetup Android more... 1st GTUG-Lilongwe Meetup: Google Mobile Tools The Google Technology User Group (GTUG) Lilongwe on 26th February 2011 held the first Meetup to discuss Google Mobile Tools. The meeting took place at Baobab Health offices and attracted some 20 techies and 1 non-techie. Mobile in Malawi The meetup started with an overview of the mobile market in Malawi. It was noted that there is a general lack of information on the number of mobile users in Malawi except the number of customers the main providers claim to have. The activities included, among other things, hands-on presentation of Android development.
