Have you ever tried to use one of Google's many APIs but got lost in OAuth perplexity? Google provides a variety of powerful APIs for its services but just gaining access to them can be difficult if you don't understand OAuth.This month Gabriel Dayley and Judson Flamm will present on using OAuth to gain access to these APIs. They will guide us through the Google APIs Console and show how to leverage Google's services. By the end of their presentation, you should have everything you need to use Google's APIs from your own applications.

That's right, bring your favorite mobile device and a laptop 'cause we are going to the "Mobile Web Lanes" to learn how to leverage the capabilities of  modern mobile browsers to build games like Wii Bowling.+Tom Valletta, a software architect from the LDS Church and fresh off of presenting atJSConf, is going to entertain us with a presentation on "The Web Game Console".  In this presentation, he will compare the web as a platform for building games and applications. Those attending will be able to roll up their sleeves and hack up there very own web bowling controller using the device motion capabilities of their mobile device.As always we will be supplying pizza and drinks and some great swag to give away. Chad Maughan, a local Android enthusiast and developer, will walk us through the new features of the latest and greatest including a new refined ui, enhanced communication and sharing, more cloud capabilities, NFC support, and more.  He will also talk about the general direction of the Android platform and vision for the future. We will also continue our Android breakout immediately following the presentation, where we will continue our focus on learning and talking about a community project we can all collaborate on. We know that during a Startup Weekend event there isn't a lot of time to learn new things. You come in with the tools you have in your belt, and you do the best you can with those. But sometimes those tools aren't enough, which is why we're running this pre-Startup Weekend technical bootcamp

Come spend a few hours getting a crash course on Android and HTML5 from a couple of pros.  Ask questions, hack away for a bit, hone them skills!

The UGTUG is excited to kickoff a brand new year with our meeting this Wednesday, January 11th, 2012.  This month we are going to focus on three of the new API's found in HTML5. First, +Dan Langford is going to dive into the File System API, which allows web applications the ability to interface with a sandboxed section of the user's local filesystem to read and write files and directories.   Finally web applications can store and interact with binary data!Next, +Mike Heath will take us through the raw, yet beautiful simplicity of WebSockets, which extend the ability of client/server communication beyond the typical request/response paradigm allowing both the server and client to initiate communication and send data at any time.Finally, +Gabriel Dayley will demonstrate that audio in HTML5 isn't just limited to the audio tag. The Web Audio API is a high level API for processing and synthesizing audio in web applications.   Some of the capability goals for the web audio api inculde:  mixing, processing and filtering.

Native Mobile vs. The Open Web. They will explore the features andcapabilities of native platforms and comparing them to what isavailable via the mobile browsers. The strengths and weaknesses ofboth native and web approaches will be demonstrated through exampleapplications and code.

We will be talking about Google TV and demonstrating how to build a simple Android app for Google TV. We will also be giving away a Logitech Revue Google TV device!

Come embrace your inner-child and learn how to build an Android application that remote controls a Lego Mindstorm.Join us next Wednesday, September 14th as we will be learning about AppInventor for Android. We will be using this tool to build an application for android devices that will control the sensors and motors of a Lego Mindstorm. Everyone will get the opportunity to go hands on with the tool and the Mindstorm kits to build a robot and go head to head with others to compete for some great prizes!This month, we are excited to announce that Lego will be sponsoring our event and has given us some great prizes to give away. This month we will be looking at Google AppEngine again and looking into some of the services that often getoverlooked such as:- Channel - for pushing date to the client- XMPP - for interacting with IM clients and other XMPP based services- Multitenancy - to compartmentalize your app engine data (i.e.separate data out for different customers)There will be a number of code examples including building an inbrowser IM client.After the app engine presentation we will also have a GWT breakoutdiscussing UI Binder.
