Recently 6 members of GDG Gainesville attended Google IO, Google'sannual developer's conference. These members will report on thehighlights of the conference, including Android Jelly Bean, ChromeExtensions and Apps, App Engine and Compute Engine, Cloud Storage,HTML5, the shadow DOM, Web Intents, web and Android developmenttools, and the Go and Dart programming languages.Of course, not all of these topics can be covered in depth during onemeeting, but fortunately, all of the sessions were recorded and areavailable on-line so participants can follow up on any of the topicsthat interest them.Background: No specific background--there should be something tointerest everyone at this meeting Preparation needed: None. If you have a smart phone, you are stronglyencouraged to bring it and join the Google+ event associated with thismeeting.From 7:00 to 7:30 we'll have some of the new hardware distributed atGoogle IO, including the Nexus 7 tablet, Nexus Q, Chrome Box, andApplication Development Kit available for examination, along with alight supper. There will also be people to help you join the Google+event. The presentation will start promptly at 7:30.

Topics include Chrome.* API, .crx Manifest, Permissions, Debugging an Extension, and Publishing. The presentation will include several examples, hard lessons learned, and a road map to developing your own extension. Questions and discussion to follow.

Pedro Diaz-Vargas and Mark Oelke will introduce the HTML5 Canvas API and demonstrate its use through the creation of a small web-based video game. Topics to be covered include drawing to canvas, and overivew of the game loop and rendering queue, event handling, and sound generation.

2011 Jun 20	Kick-off Google App Engine 28 attendees more... The inaugural event of the Gainesville Google Technologies User Group! We will have a meet and greet at the beginning, followed by an introduction of the GTUG and what we hope to accomplish as a community. We will then hear an introductory talk about Google App Engine that will serve as an example of the types of talks we hope to have on a regular basis. Lastly, we will discuss as a group where we would like to see the GTUG go in the future and on what technologies to focus.
