What are we talking about? Google I/O 2012 - what else???!
We will have all the new Googley gadgets and gizmos from I/O for you to play with (except Google Glass, sadly...)
Presentations will include a brief presentation on the all new Accessory Development Kit (ADK 2012) and a demo of the Nexus Q (a black orb-looking lounge accessory thing with funky mesmerising coloured lights, in case you missed the I/O keynote).

There will be a few short presentations on a variety of topics, and as always there will be lots of devices and general discussion. Justin will describe how he rooted his Nook Color, Julius will talk about styling apps and his recent experiences with Honeycomb Tablets, John will show Android running a Python SL4A CherryPy web server front end for Wiki-to-Speech and Abhishek may do a quick demo of a GIS library he cross-compiled from Ruby if he gets it working by Thursday. Any members who wish to speak are very welcome, last time we had a very interesting presentation on Unity and a few other things from Simon #4.

Justin will be giving a talk entitled 'Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep?' which covers persistence in Android apps with a focus on stability coming in and out of sleep or when switching in and out of activities (and between applications).

John Graves will present the open source project Wiki-to-Speech, an Android app which extracts scripts from web pages and plays them, using text-to-speech in multiple languages while (optionally) displaying other web-based content. This presentation should be of particular interest to developers of guides or tutorials.

This week Justin will be talking about incorporating Google maps into an Android app and over the next few meetups Julius will be describing various aspects of Android development, using his Powershop app "Power Up" as an example. This week he will be focusing on using AsyncTask to perform background operations and publish results on the UI thread without having to manipulate threads and/or handlers.

The main feature of this meetup is the 'Shake an Elf Application Challenge'.
As usual we'll have general discussion from 6:30pm, then people entering the competition will be given a chance to present their apps. The winner will go home with the Motorolla Flipout phone (kindly donated by Telecom) at the end of the meetup!

The plan this week is to have seven members present for seven minutes each on a topic of their choosing. There will also be time before and after for general discussion. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Feel free to arrive any time from 6pm for general discussion and a few drinks and nibbles. Presentations start at 7pm. The current plan is for Julius to continue demonstrating app development using Eclipse and Simon to showcase the App Inventor for Android.
